Can elementary and middle school students wear shirt colors other than navy and white?
Yes, all the students- elementary through high school - can wear the colors for their high school cluster.  Schools that "feed" into Northview wear navy, white, maroon or gold shirts.  Dothan High = navy, white, red or black shirts.

Do girls have to tuck in their shirts? When a girl is overweight it doesn't look good and this is a concern for me.
Yes, girls are required to tuck their shirts in the same as the males are.  I encourage you to visit our "Diva Tips" page for info on how girls can make tucking in shirts a little less stressful; even if they have a weight issue. 
 
What kind of polo shirts are allowed? P.M.
The only restriction is that shirts be solid in the colors accepted within that cluster.  There are no button number, gathered sleeve, etc. restrictions.  Logos must be smaller than a quarter.
 
Can students wear ties? (boys and girls)
No, ties are not permitted.
 
Can we wear a navy blue t-shirt and white t-shirt that are both attached? Y.C.
No because t-shirts are not allowed.
 
Are there restrictions for the number of buttons on polo shirts?  G.S.
No.

Many of my friends have bought American Eagle and Polo shirts for their children to wear next year.  Are these brand names approved?
The code does not restrict brand names, however any logos present on the clothing should fit underneath a U.S. quarter.

 

Yes, as long as it is smaller than a quarter, any color is permitted.

 

The crest can be any complimentary color to the shirt.  NHS and DHS logos should be embroidered as shown on the approved list.  Parents can have the embroidery done anywhere that offers the service.  The Clothesline is aware of several vendors offering DCS crest services: Singer Sewing Center, Playmaker Embroidery, Screentech, and Olympia School Uniform Zone.

Blue jeans of any type are not acceptable.

I would like to know if the boys will be able to wear the PFG shorts from Eagle Eye?  T.N.
Yes, these shorts are permitted.  You can find a picture of this short on our "Where to Shop" page.

Why can't we wear skirts at Carver?  Y.C.
Skirts can be worn at all DCS schools.

My 13 year old son is tall and skinny.  He wears a 16 in Levi's and that's getting too short.  You have approved the Land's End uniform collection so if their shorts only come in one length, and that is too short, what am I to do? D.H.
Land's End is not the only approved clothing available.  Dothan City Schools does not mandate where clothing should be purchased for the specific reason that children vary so in sizes.  Please shop around to find clothing that best fits your child while staying within the confines of the new code. 

 

The code defines khaki as "light tan".  Below is a picture of two shades of khaki that are acceptable (or any shade between these two hues would work).  Try to avoid khakis that have an olive green hue or a stonewashed, whitish hue.(Note: computer monitors may distort colors.)
